Sony Pictures Studios operates and maintains 22 sound stages. Scores of films have been shot on the lot’s historic stages, including some of MGM’s classics: THE WIZARD OF OZ, SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, KISS ME KATE, and NORTH BY NORTHWEST. Esther Williams’ aquatic musicals made the water tank on Stage 30 famous. More recent films released under the Columbia Pictures and TriStar Pictures banners have utilized multiple stages while filming on the lot, such as MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING, HOOK, JERRY MAGUIRE, MEN IN BLACK, MEN IN BLACK II, and SPIDER-MAN. The studio’s largest stage is 31,324 square feet, 132’ wide, 50’ high and 237’ long. The difference between a completely empty stage and a fully constructed set is extreme.
